PDD and IOM launch new study on human mobility and climate change in Guatemala

IOM Guatemala and PDD just launched a new study on “Human mobility in the context of climate change: identification of information gaps”. The study provides an overview of research available on migration and displacement in the context of climate change in Guatemala, highlighting what data gaps still exist.

The study looks at evidence across the following key areas:

  • Individual and household level factors that facilitate or hinder human mobility
  • Demographic determinants of human mobility
  • Economic determinants of human mobility
  • Environmental determinants of human mobility
  • Political determinants of human mobility
  • Social determinants of human mobility.

The study was launched at an event in Guatemala City on March 12, attended by about 50 representatives of Governmental organisations, Civil Society Organisations and Academia, with the participation of senior staff from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The study provides a foundation for a number of PAMAD’s project activities in the country, notably those aiming to strengthen collection and analysis of data on displacement in the country, and relevant coordination mechanisms.
