PDD and L&DC submission: Human Mobility and Non-Economic Loss & Damage
PDD and the Loss and Damage Collaboration (L&DC) jointly developed a submission to contribute to the work of the Expert Group on Non-Economic Losses (NELs-EG) of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM-ExCom). The NELs-EG is currently working to update their 2013 technical paper on Non-Economic Losses.
The submission is a compilation of research papers, news stories, policy documents and analytic reports that were shared by partners involved in the work of the Working Group on “Loss & Damage and the challenges of Human Mobility”, which brings together experts and practitioners working on climate change, migration, displacement and planned relocations. Details on the materials analysed and links to the documents (where available) can be accessed here.
The submission has been elaborated around 7 main topics:
- The need to focus on the drivers and on the impacts;
- The persisting data and knowledge gaps;
- The elaboration of a typology of non-economic losses and damages linked with displacement and movements;
- The interconnections between economic and non-economic losses;
- The need to look at and address specific conditions of vulnerability;
- Indirect impacts incurred in areas of origin and destination;
- The need for integrated approaches.
The repository of materials and the evidence compiled in this submission will continue to be used to contribute to ongoing policy and advocacy efforts, including in particular for upcoming Loss & Damage negotiations under the UNFCCC. If you want to share your work and contribute to the process, please share any relevant material through this Google Form.
